Final Results!
Sunday 21st February saw the final two races of the Bough Beech Icicle, 2010. This rounded off a great series with a wide selection of classes finishing in the top places.
In the Asymetric Series, PRO Dave Derby clinched the top glassware with an amazing set of eight firsts, comfortably reeling in fellow RS200 pilots Mike Chapman and S. Gillow. Conditions have certainly suited the RS contingent, with five 200s and a couple of 400s in the top ten. Special mention for retiring Commodore Phil; ‘Team Moppett’ hadn’t raced for several years and gained a creditable eighth with son Giles ‘fresh’ from the Oppy class (!) and Luke Boughton lead the flagging L2k contingent in seventh.
The results didn’t go with the sub k sailors, the best placed skiffs were the Musto of S. Samus ninth, and early series leader Neil Ashley settling for tenth.
Over in the Conventional Series, Andy Kerr, ‘Merlin Magician’ swept the rest aside with a set of bullets interrupted by just one second to win the top chocs. Andy’s new ship is 23 year old Merlin NSM4; ‘Playing Possom’ and we wonder what will happen when he gets the hang of it! Closest rival Jonathan Day sailed an immaculate series in his Albacore and hot on his heels, Richard Southern, Laser, Dave Roberts, and Peter Kershaw in their Wayfarers completed the top five. The Conventional Series ended with thirteen classes represented in the top twenty, showing that this Series was very much about the drivers rather than the machines.
Thanks to all who have participated in this year’s Icicle, in particular to those involved in the organisation and running of the event, race officers, safety crew and all others especially the excellent support from behind the Galley!
Roll on 2011!
